Henry Charles Davies
M, #5581
Note* | I could not confirm that the following was either true or false. Family heresay has it that Henry Davies was an Admiral in the English Navy and lived at Plymouth. He was known to have "family" property in Hamburg, Germany. This information surfaced at the time of his son Williams death when a legal adviser arrived form England to discuss inheretance. Ethel (his granddaughter) was present when Mary admitted she had burned all her husbands records that were kept in a black tin box. When Ethel died this box re-appeared devoid of Williams papers but with some family photos and other bits and pieces that were of no consiquence to family rerch. Last heard of the box was held by Ethel's grandson Tony Slaughter. |

Nathan Dellar
M, #5584, b. 1819, d. 16 December 1885
Occupation* | Nathan Dellar was a Dairy Farmer. |
Immigration* | He immigrated on 6 April 1859 on the ship Hamilla Mitchell.. |
Note* | From Lorraine Eddy nee Lawrence
The small amount of information I have on the Dellar family came from Archival sources and Nathan's grandaughter, Hilda Lucy Gibbs, nee' Dellar, 3rd child of his second son John.
Nathan and Sarah left Essex, England aboard the "Hamilla Mitchell" and arrived at Bunbury in Western Australia on April 6th 1859. With them came Natahan's two daughters from his previous marriage, Mary Ann aged 14yrs & Eliza aged 10yrs, and his two two children from his marriage to Sarah, Jane aged 4yrs and James aged 2yrs.
Nathan had two brothers, Frederick who remained in England and James (a wheelwright) who emmigrated to America. Nothing is known of his first marriage and no more of Sarah than her maiden name was Taylor and that she was born in Essex. Nathan and his brothers were reputed to have been of Spanish Romany origin and literate. When he married he took Sarah's Anglican faith.
The family settled on "Alnutts Farm" on the Brunswick River, later renamed the Collie River. The house could still be seen alongside the river on the coast road from Australind. It was a low whitewashed building seen travelling southward on the left hand side of the road. It wa said that Nathan purchased this property from the Alnutt family, but I have not assertained this.
Mary Ann went into house service at "Alverstoke" owned by Charles Burrows. When Mary Ann was aged 11yrs she bore William Burrows (Charles son) a son, Alfred, in 1860. When she and William married in January 1861, he was listed as a farm servant to his father Charles, aged above 21 yrs.
Sometime before 1868 the family moved to East Perth and built a daub house where they lived for a short period before relocating to dairy farming at the Maddington foothills. Nathan's sons James and John both continued dairy farming and extended the property. Dellar Road was named after John.
Lucy Hilda Dellar, the last of her generation alive, was aged 82 yrs when I met her. She was over 6ft tall, of heavy build and avery impressive strong woman mentally and physically. Unfortunately she would only confirm what I knew of the famliy and not add to what I had devulged. She was raised by her Uncle James and his wife Mary Ann nee' White who had no children. When I met her she still resided in their huge family home at 1144 Albany Highway, Maddington. The walls of the house were hung with huge family portraits framed in local red woods measuring 4ft x 2'6" (approx. 1.6 meters by 80 cms). I was unable to have these reproduced and she let me have one small photo of James and his wife saying that James resembled his father. Many of the portraits were hand painted on glass, and were very like the photographs. |

John and Mary Wright arrived in Fremantle, from Scotland, with their five children aboard the "Hampshire" on January 21st 1887 with James Brodie listed as 17 years of age. The couple lived all their lives in Claremont, where John had a tailoring business. He is buried with his son Thomas, and daughter-in-law Eunice, at Karrakatta but what became of Mary has not been discovered, unless she re-married. The Wright family story still remains somewhat elusive but one that may yet unfold. The Brodie family story is very interesting in itself. |
