Note* | Thomas and Ann Bailey and their four children arrived at the Swan River Colony per 'Gilmore' on 15 December 1829 under the ill-fated Thomas Peel scheme. Ann died in childbirth on 16 August 1830 (32 years) at Clarence - thus causing Thomas a great deal of hardship. On 2 November 1830, Thomas was granted permission by the Governor to select two allotments in the Northern part of Fremantle (Lots 238 & 252 in November 1830) to establish a timber yard (Surveyor General Office Entry 334) followed by a further request (Entry 372). Thomas was still at Clarence April/May 1831 according to letters written to Peter Brown the Colonial Secretary (CSR.36.Vol 14/102 & Vol 15/53) and Eliza Bay in 1832 (Vol 23/160 & 16/133). In the 1836 Census the family were at Melville Waters but in the 1837 Census the family were living at York. Thomas died while living on his property 'Waterhatch' Beverley on 14 February 1856. A daughter Ann Elizabeth married Charles Heal at Springdale, York on 19 February 1842.7 |
